Hope everyone had a fantastic and safe Memorial Day Weekend. Very busy weekend for me. I took today off work also....... just because. Thank you to all who participated in our second Scavenger Hunt. Here are the spotlight photos in no particular order.

Mark, spin. I also Love his rest pic! Hard to decide which to show here.

Ginger, drop. These falls are just totally gorgeous.

J9, spin. (and drop!) and eventually coming to rest.

Jama, rest. (and the fan spinning)  Children are so precious, and when they are sleeping, remind me of angels.

The theme for June 3rd is Your Town at Night or Dusk. Show us your town's hot spots and the quiet spots. This will be good practice for night shots. For a bit of info click on Night Photography Lesson. Dusk is better to shoot in than when it gets very dark. Just have fun and enjoy shooters!!

2nd Scavenger Hunt - Spin ~ Drop ~ Rest - by J9

Our second FMTSO Scavenger Hunt for May 27,  Spin - Drop - Rest, was suggested by J9.
 In her words:

This is a scavenger hunt for images or items, or people or places in
your town that represent the actions of Spin, Drop, and Rest. Because
there really are no rules, you can pretty much interpret this however
you would like. Do you have a drop roller coaster in your town? How
about giving a new car a spin? What about rest? We know at least one
personality thinking of rest rooms (Bagman), but what do people in
your town do to rest? How about rain drops? Whirling Dervishes?
Spinning Laundry? Mattress Stores? Let's see what we can all come up
with, and have fun!

This will be quite a challenge J9!!

Spotlight Photos - Nurses, Doctors, Hospitals and Member Voice May 20

This theme was near and dear to a few of our members. Even though we did not have many that participated this week, the ones that did were very touching. It gave me a good feeling to pay tribute to so many that get very little recognition for what they do and the sacrifices they have made.

Peggy, QMM

 Mark, Barclay

 Monica, Dawn Treader

 Ann, Andrew

I was totally unprepared for this theme. But after I browsed through our member's posts, so many things popped into my head that I could have talked about and shown. Duh!! And that my friends is why I love our FMTSO's. It opens your eyes to new ideas and different ways of thinking and seeing the world.

Our theme for May 20 is Flowers in your town. I feel this will be a cheery and very colorful theme.

"Flowers are the sweetest things God ever made, and forgot to put a soul into."  ~Henry Beecher, Life Thoughts, 1858

"Flowers... are a proud assertion that a ray of beauty outvalues all the utilities of the world."  ~Ralph Waldo Emerson, 1844

"Flowers have an expression of countenance as much as men or animals.  Some seem to smile; some have a sad expression; some are pensive and diffident; others again are plain, honest and upright, like the broad-faced sunflower and the hollyhock."  ~Henry Ward Beecher, Star Papers: A Discourse of Flowers

I like what Henry Ward Beecher had to say about flowers. Think about it, do they have expressions? Do they emit a feeling? Challenge for our shooters for this theme .....
show us a flower expression
show us a flower thought
show us a flower feeling
show us a flower attitude
show us a flower mood
show us a flower emotion

and as always HAPPY SHOOTING!!

what thought or feeling or expression is this flower emitting?

Almost Spotlight Photos and Member Voice for May 13

Oh No! Just realized this Friday will be a Friday the 13th!! Maybe I should have made the theme something to do with that! Oh well......... the theme for May 13 is in honor of Nurses. May 11th is Nurses Day. So show us your medical personal, nurses, doctors, helpers, hospitals, doctor offices of your town.

Now the calendar I have next to my computer has May 11th as Nurses Day. When I tried to find info on it, I found a National Nurses Week tribute, all with different dates. ?? It is celebrated from May 6 to the 12th.
National Nurses Day, also known as National RN Recognition Day, is always celebrated on May 6th and opens National Nurses Week.  National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6th and ends on May 12th, the birth date of Florence Nightingale.

The history of Nurses Day can be traced back to 1953 when Dorothy Sutherland of the U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare sent a proposal to President Eisenhower to proclaim a "Nurse Day" in October of the following year.  The proclamation was never made, but the following year National Nurses Week was observed from October 11 – 16, marking the 100th anniversary of Florence Nightingale's mission to Crimea. Read on here.....

I have decided not to post spotlight photos this week, which would be from our shoot out May 6th, Cinco de Mayo and Mother's Day. How could I choose a wonderful photo of our Moms over another? Just couldn't do it.

 So......... HAPPY SHOOTING!!

And if anyone would like to suggest a theme for our shoot outs..... please do not be shy!!

Member Voice for May 6

The holiday of Cinco De Mayo, The 5th Of May, commemorates the victory of the Mexican militia over the French army at The Battle Of Puebla in 1862.  Celebrated mainly in the state of Puebla and the United States.

Celebrating Cinco de Mayo has become increasingly popular along the U.S.-Mexico border and in parts of the U.S. that have a high population of people with a Mexican heritage. In these areas the holiday is a celebration of Mexican culture, of food, music, beverage and customs unique to Mexico.

Commercial interests in the United States and Mexico have also had a hand in promoting the holiday, with products and services focused on Mexican food, beverages and festivities, with music playing a more visible role as well. Several cities throughout the U.S. hold parades and concerts during the week following up to May 5th, so that Cinco de Mayo has become a bigger holiday north of the border than it is to the south, and being adopted into the holiday calendar of more and more people every year.

I am combining two totally different themes for this shoot out. This way, everyone will find material for the shoot out.

This year Mother's Day is May 8th. Mother's Day is elebrated to honor all mothers and express gratitude for the hardships they bear in bringing up a child. Most countries including US, Australia, Canada and India celebrate Mothers Day on the second Sunday of May. Mothers Day came into being due to the efforts made by Ms Julia Ward Howe and Ms Anna Jarvis. The Resolution for having a dedicated Mother's Day was signed by US President Woodrow Wilson on May 8, 1914. Since then people across the world have been celebrating Mothers Day with joy and devotion. You can open this up for all Mother's you see in your town, human and animal.
