Stained Glass

Feb 28: Stained glass  -  Large or small, religious or decorative. Show and tell us about the stained glass in your Town. (Topic by Ginger V)  We tend to associate stained glass with the windows in our chapels, churches and cathedrals but they are also used (and re-used) in older homes, store fronts, and other public buildings.  Hunt one down, and show us how they look from the outside, and from the inside.  How they change the atmosphere, the light and our feelings about the space they adorn.

Spotlights: Eating and Drinking in my Town

Deliciousness was housed on our group blog for this past theme. And while i seems almost impossible to pick a favorite post and dish (because most of them were drool inducing), I had to select a few to spotlight here. So let's start:

How can you not include an image that shows a scrumptious and tasty looking strawberry cake, that was featured in the local town birthday celebration! And yes, it's free cake!

Peggy says that she visits this family owned restaurant for special occasions, because the food is on the pricey side. I think the scallops look magnificent and tasty, and that this photo and restaurant certainly deserves to be spotlighted.

And then there is a delicious Boston pizza to top everything of. I can't really decide which ones I like the best from these two. You be the judge.

I think we can all agree that past Friday's theme was not only great to look at, but also showcased the various foods that our cities offer. From free to expensive, food is something that we all have in common and that is universally shared. It's really a great binding point that brings people together.

This Friday we have a new theme called Stained Glass. It's all about the translucent qualities of this material, whether in a colored version, religious context or from your home. Spotlights will be done by Ginger.

Love in the Spotlight

Valentine's Day has now come and gone and taking part in this shoot-out was the closest I came to taking part in the spirit of the day.  I've read blogs where women commented how unromantic their partners are.  It's not just the men, let me tell you.  When it comes to what seems to be the modern  romantic view of love, I'm way out of step.  But, as our prompt said, I definitely can't (and don't) deny feeling love.

In fact looking at this weeks contributions has left me a bit soft and mushy (and that doesn't happen often!).  Even a little dreamy.  I've had no experience with snow scenes but I think they must be incredibly hard to photograph.  Rebecca's dreamy road looks perfect to me.  I can well imagine that one could love looking at a scene like that.

It seems right that churches should have featured prominently as a place people love about their town.  I've chosen Ruth's temple to feature. Her love for it showed in her words and in the images.  It really is charming and I appreciated the story of the temple, its origins and its beliefs.

Valentine's Day can bring a sadness, when it reminds one of a love lost. Barb lived that reality with the memory of a much loved pet.

Love

Valentine's Day is upon us, and while the notion of sugary sweet love in the air may not be to everyone's taste, one can't deny feeling love. Join us this week in celebrating the love stories we share with the places we live in. Weather it's a part of nature nearby or the history of your place or loved ones strolling by, share with us what you love about your town and what love looks like in your town or city.

Spotlight on Leading Lines

I knew picking the spotlights was going to be hard this week.  Lines, leading lines; curves, straight, edges, frames, wires….. I could go on and on, on what is possible under the guise of this topic.  And wow did you notice the number of participants?  17, that is SEVENTEEN,  posts.  Everyone give themselves a pat on the back then call / email / text a friend and tell them to come join us next Friday, Feb 7,  when our topic will be Entrances.  Show us usual and unusual entrances in your towns and cities, from home doors, to gates in the city. (contributed by Mersad)

This weeks spotlight pick – out of 16 (didn’t pull one of mine) I got it down to five, then went back and reviewed and picked a different 5, good heavens;  Okay my final decision.  I chose the 3 roads; roads leading home or into our towns, taking us where we need to go.  jamas train

The first Jama’s commuter railroad through Singapore.  Straight and true

PC130001 Peggy

Then as far as you can go away from Singapore, Peggy’s road in mid-Kentucky.  Up and down, up and down, but also straight and true.

005 Kim USA

And on a return to FSO Kim takes us on a ride through the country on a snow and ice crusted road.  I hope she wasn’t driving on ice with one hand when she snapped this photo.

Congratulations to all for your photos and your stories of home.  I wish I could have posted one from everyone.  We are still asking for topics for April and May.  Take a moment to read the ones set for the next two months and hope to see you all back here next week.
