Spotlight Beaches

I thought every single post was a jaw dropper this week.  So many breathtaking photos!

My spotlights come from all over the world.  Each is so different from the beaches I see here in the South Pacific.

Mersad's spectacular Croation Island of Hvar:

I would never have the creativity to take a black and white photo at the beach.  But, it seems perfect for Ranu's Goa Beach in India. I think it helps us see the details in his image.

To me a beach is a happy place and my smile was very broad when I spotted Jackie's beach-side image from Toronto.   Love the composition.

And oh, the beaches of Oregon in the States.  I can't believe we were lucky enough to have two contributions featuring the same coast line.  And what a coast it is! I simply couldn't decide between one of Kerry's images and one of Linda's.  But when a place speaks to me it speaks loudly.  So I've chosen two aspects of the same coastline, the quiet harbour:

and the seastacks sitting in the wild, untamed sea.

Spotlights: Scavenger Hunt

Spotlights for FSO June 13, 2014

Because this theme involves 3 shots to complete the theme I am spotting the entire post of the ones I have chosen this week.
This is a deviation from our usual style but I am sure all can understand.

The story in photographs and text.

Inviting all to join us next week for another
Friday My Town Shoot Out.

Spotlight: The Colors of Early Summer

It was so nice to see what the beginning of summer looks like all over the world. The colors we saw were vibrant and plentiful. We had a lot of contributions, but I want to spotlight three that really stood out to my eye.

We are looking forward to your contributions this coming Friday. It's a scavenger hunt (but a very easy one). Simply shoot 3 images, one sky, one earth and one ground. More in the description after the images.

I really like the wide an open spaces in Dawn's post, as well as the colors of the countryside she showed. The clouds especially are a vision for sore eyes.

There are so many colorful photos in Mascha's post that it was hard to pick just one. But these lovely flowers that are on display in her town's market are wonderful!

I love this, almost futuristic vision of summer, in Gypsy Lala's post from Singapore. These gardens by the bay, are a perfect example of the mixture of nature and civilization.

Sculpture Spotlights

Sculptures or statues.  Wasn't that a great topic?

After visiting all the participants I feel like I've been on a world class art tour.  The Spotlights I've chosen represent four different countries.

From Jim in Sydney, Australia "Sacrifice" is a sculpture located inside the Anzac Memorial in Hyde Park.  It depicts a body of a young Anzac soldier lying over a shield and sword.   It's a permanent memorial to those from the state of New South Wales who served in The Great War 1914 - 1918.

;

Welcome to a new FMTSO participant from Hamilton, Ontario.  I'm a bit confused about this sculptures title, Unleashed, as to me it looks like the figures are pulling in the sail.  Maybe just pulling it into place, so the it can be filled with the wind  and fly away.  I don't know that much about sailing.  I like that already I know Hamilton is beside the water and has an association with sailing.

Did you see Tomoko's beautiful images of the sculptures on the Midousuji Street which is one of the main streets in Osaka?  What a treat it must be to walk down that street and see the 29 original sculptures.  They are all so lovely it was hard to choose but when I looked at  "Jill" by Asakura Kyouko I could imagine myself greeting her as I walk past her along with the thousands of people who must pass her daily.

From visiting Monica in Sweden for a few years I've come to appreciate the artwork of her hometown, where the BorĂ¥s International Sculpture Biennial 2014 has just opened.  This year's big attraction is the sculpture The House of Knowledge by Spanish artist Jaume Plensa.  I agree with Monica, it's a truly awesome sculpture.

Next week the theme is The Colors of Early Summer

Our weekly spotlighter will be Mersad

Thanks for all the beautiful contributions to our Friday My Town Shoot Out.
